Smart Thermostats in Canton

Smart Thermostats for Canton homes

Canton Township grew rapidly from the 1980s through the 2000s, from established subdivisions to newer neighborhoods like Cherry Hill Village, with older farmhouses at its edges. Canton homeowners adding heat pumps to existing furnaces need a thermostat that manages the hybrid system properly. We set the switchover temperature and auxiliary heat settings so the system uses the cheaper fuel at the right times.

Full details, how the work runs and common questions are on our main smart thermostats page.

Local conditions in Canton

With so many Canton homes built in the same era, equipment ages in waves across whole neighborhoods. Regular maintenance and planning ahead avoid replacing a furnace in the middle of January.

Questions to ask before you hire

Whoever you hire for smart thermostats in Canton, get clear answers to these before signing:

• Is this thermostat compatible with my equipment?
• Will you add a C-wire rather than use an adapter?
• Will you set up heat pump or hybrid settings?
• Will you show me how to set schedules?

Permits and licensing

In Michigan, installing or replacing a furnace, air conditioner or heat pump generally requires a mechanical permit and inspection, and the work must be done by a licensed mechanical contractor. In Canton, permits are handled by Canton Township's building and inspection services. New electrical circuits are done by a licensed electrician under an electrical permit. We pull the permits that apply to your project.
