Furnace Repair in Troy

Furnace Repair for Troy homes

Troy is largely built from the 1960s through the 1980s, with neighborhoods of ranches, colonials and tri-levels alongside a busy office and retail corridor. Older Troy furnaces, especially in tri-levels and ranches with long duct runs, often overheat because of restricted return air, which looks like random shutdowns. We check airflow as part of the repair, not just the part that failed.

What's included

Diagnosis and repair for furnaces that won't start, short cycle, blow cold air or make new noises. Depending on your home and equipment, the work can include:

• No heat or no ignition
• Short cycling
• Blowing cold air
• Noises and smells
• Water around the furnace
• Error codes
• Thermostat.
• Power.
• Filter.
• Vents outside.

Full details, how the work runs and common questions are on our main furnace repair page.

Local conditions in Troy

Troy's older homes mostly heat with gas forced air, with some hot water baseboard and radiant systems in custom homes. When a furnace moves to PVC venting, the old chimney may be left serving only the water heater, which we plan for in the quote.

Questions to ask before you hire

Whoever you hire for furnace repair in Troy, get clear answers to these before signing:

• What exactly failed, and can you show me?
• Is this a common failure, and what caused it?
• Is the part covered by the manufacturer's warranty?
• Given the furnace's age, is this repair worth doing?

Permits and licensing

In Michigan, installing or replacing a furnace, air conditioner or heat pump generally requires a mechanical permit and inspection, and the work must be done by a licensed mechanical contractor. In Troy, permits are handled by the City of Troy's building department. New electrical circuits are done by a licensed electrician under an electrical permit. We pull the permits that apply to your project.
